Nylon
The workhorse. It springs back after furniture and foot traffic, so it is the usual pick for stairs, landings, and busy halls. Type 6,6 (Anso, Wear-Dated) holds its shape a little longer than type 6.

A professional sales team member brings full-size samples — Shaw, Mohawk, and the rest — so you can see density and color next to your furniture. Quoted the same time we measure.

Brands we sample
Anso nylon and Caress. Soft underfoot, built for stairs, halls, and everyday rooms.
SmartStrand triexta and EverStrand polyester. Color stays put. Spills wipe up.
Shaw’s dressier line. Tighter patterns and a quieter, tailored hand.
Styled nylons and wools for bedrooms and formal rooms that need a softer finish.
Engineered Floors. Plush polyesters and nylons that feel thick without a luxury price.
Family color lines. Easy to picture next to paint, bedding, and trim.
Fiber
The workhorse. It springs back after furniture and foot traffic, so it is the usual pick for stairs, landings, and busy halls. Type 6,6 (Anso, Wear-Dated) holds its shape a little longer than type 6.
Mohawk’s SmartStrand. Made in part from corn sugar. Soft, and the fiber itself resists stains — red wine and coffee sit on top instead of soaking in. A strong bedroom and family-room fiber.
The plushest hand for the money, and the color does not bleach out in a sunny Shore room. It crushes sooner in a main hallway, so we steer it toward bedrooms and lower-traffic rooms.
Natural, quiet, and a little warmer in winter. It costs more and wants gentler cleaning. Worth it when the room is a showpiece, not a mudroom.
Solution-dyed polypropylene. Color goes through the fiber, so bleach spots and sun fade are less of a worry. It flattens faster. We use it in basements and indoor-outdoor spots.
Tell us the rooms. We’ll bring the books and leave a clear installed price.
